about dr. Stefanovic
Dr. Stefanovic (or simply Bojana, as she’s known around the lab) is the head of the Functional Brain Imaging Lab (fBIL). She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics (MBP) at the University of Toronto and holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Functional Neuroimaging. After an extensive international search, Dr. Stefanovic was appointed as the new Platform Director of Physical Sciences at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) in September 2020. Bojana’s cross-affiliation at SRI is with the Hurvitz Brain Sciences program, which investigates disorders and conditions of the brain and central nervous system. Her research interests include the development and application of in vivo high field functional MRI, two-photon fluorescence microscopy, and extracellular recordings for tracking functional deficits in cellular components of the neurovascular unit over the course of neurodegeneration in transgenic models of Alzheimer’s disease and during the chronic stage of recovery in rodent models of focal ischemia and traumatic brain injury.
Bojana is actively engaged in promoting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Medical Biophysics, and is the Chair of the MBP EDI Committee. Read more about EDI in MBP here.
